Vila do Conde Museum
In 1979, at the S. Sebastião House, the current Memory Center, an exhibition was created, with temporarily assigned pieces, enhancing the collection of the Vila do Conde Museum, namely regarding the musealization of the Wooden Shipbuilding. The first step was taken to create a municipal museum structure. After 29 years, and resulting from a project of regeneration of the existing building and the creation of two new bodies, thus doubling the initial area, Casa de S. Sebastião opens its doors to the public, bringing together the valences in the same space. Municipal Archives, the Municipal Archaeological Office and the much desired central nucleus of the Vila do Conde Museum. This property, which for a century has meant a centrality in the culture of our county, first by the hand of the theatrologist Jorge Faria, then by the municipal intervention, which installed the old Library and part of the Municipal Archive, continues to assume unquestionable, a prominent place in the local, regional and national cultural panorama.
