Terra da Maia History and Ethnology Museum Porto Portugal

The Museum of History and Ethnology of the Terra da Maia is a museum dedicated to the lands of the Maya and its villages. The Museum of History and Ethnology of Terra da Maia is housed in a building that functioned as City Hall until 1902, and whose origins probably date back to the eighteenth century.

It later functioned as a primary school; headquarters of the Sport Club of Castêlo da Maia; headquarters of the Parish Council of Santa Maria de Avioso; Post Office and Civil Registry until its closing in 1998, for adaptation works to the Municipal Museum. However, the design of a museum for the Terra da Maia, an administrative geographical unit between the Ave River and the Douro River, dates back to the 1960s, when a historical and archaeological exhibition was installed in the cloister of the Conventual Church of Moreira da Maia, but only in 2001 was the Terra da Maia Museum of History and Ethnology opened, with a collection organized within the thematic areas of History and Ethnology.
