The parish of Castro Laboreiro ,  the largest and oldest in the municipality of Melgaço, necessarily had to have a museum core that preserved and promoted its rich history and ethnography. It is at the headquarters of the old Caravelos Chocolate Factory that you can currently visit the Castro Laboreiro Museum Center.

Here the tourist gets to know the regions Castreja culture, the landscape and local experiences, all supported by a vast collection of photographic documents and documentaries about the parish. Special attention should be given to information about the Brandas and Winteres, one of the most interesting land use systems in our country. The megalithic necropolis of the Castro Laboreiro plateau also has its prominent place, with several films on the subject. Youll be in the mood to pack your backpack and discover these places!

To end the visit, move to the house next to the headquarters, a typically castrejo building where you can catch a glimpse of everyday living in a regional dwelling in the second half of the twentieth century. You will be enchanted by the simple dark wood furniture, the typical quilts of the region and the small and chastising details that bring the house to life, such as lamps, clay pots and even a chamber pot under the bed…
