The Pottery Museum occupies the building of the former “Casa dos Mendanhas Benevides Cyrne”, located in the historical center of the city. It was created in 1963 and opened to the public in 1995. It has been part of the Portuguese Museum Network (Institute of Museums and Conservation) since 2000.

Its collection, which currently has about 9000 pieces, consists essentially of collections of frosted and glazed Portuguese ceramics (from north to south) and foreign (from Angola, Algeria, Brazil, Timor, Chile, Spain and Cape Verde).

Its mission is the acquisition, research and dissemination of this important pottery heritage, as well as its preservation. You can enjoy black crockery, matte red crockery, glazed and crushed red crockery.
