Oriente Museum Lisbon Portugal
The Oriente Foundation Museum is housed in the Pedro Álvares Cabral building, former warehouses of the Cod Regulatory Trade Commission in Alcântara, Lisbon.
The museum brings together collections that have the Orient as their main theme, in the historical, religious, anthropological and artistic aspects.
The idea of opening a museum dedicated to the Orient in Lisbon coincides with the establishment of the Oriente Foundation in 1988. Following an old Portuguese tradition, the Foundation has always been guided by its vocation to build links between Western and Eastern civilizations. , which have become indispensable for guaranteeing a peaceful future in the 21st century. Its legacy is the spirit of the ancient Portuguese, the navigators who invented the unity of the world. Its purpose was and is to ensure the timeliness of this extraordinary vision, which continues to be put to the test every day. The Orient Museum translates this design. Its Portuguese and Asian art collections are the highest demonstration of historical encounters between the West and the East. In the same vein, the collections that bring together the cultural traditions of all Asia are a demonstration of their richness, their plurality and their genius, which we wish could be better known in Portugal and in Europe.
