Cadaval Municipal Museum Lisbon Portugal

The Cadaval Municipal Museum has been in existence since 2002 but was re-installed in 2015 in the Municipal Library building. The museum shows the evolution of the territory from the earliest to the most recent times, in a path that encompasses Paleontology, Archeology, History and the Cultural Heritage of Cadaval.

At first some fossils of invertebrate animals and dinosaurs can be seen. In the archeology rooms, prehistoric materials of the caves and castros of the Serra de Montejunto are displayed, highlighting the metallic pieces of the Copper and Bronze Ages and the materials of the sites of Pragança and Salvador.

From Roman times there are objects from various places in the county, especially the Borjigas site. From medieval times, materials from the Cadaval Church, some headstones, an important decorated capital and a sculpture of S. Sebastião are exhibited. Some exposed pieces of the algar of Nossa Senhora das Neves are from the 18th century.
In the history of the county, the Foral do Cadaval, from 1513, and the Map of the Vila do Cadaval stand out, which shows, in a painting, what this village was like at the end of the 18th century.

In a set of old photographs you can see what the village of Cadaval was like and its cultural and recreational life since the early twentieth century.

The various aspects of cultural heritage are exposed in images showing the most important mills, fountains and churches. This heritage includes the Ice Factory and the Convent of Nossa Senhora das Neves.
