The Caminha Municipal Museum is located in the middle of the towns Medieval Historical Center and is housed in a building probably dating from the 19th century. XVII / XVIII which, until being adapted to Museum and Library in 1989, served as Court and Jail of the District of Caminha. Today, the building houses the Caminha Municipal Museum, which features an important collection of archaeological objects that document the history of the region from prehistory to romanization.
In the Municipal Museum of Caminha the visitor will be guided by secrets and mysteries of ancient times that will make you smile and dream about life in the ancient times of this region, mirrored in prehistoric objects, in the replicas of the rock engravings of Lanhelas, in the reproduction of the Anta. Barrosa de Vila Praia de Âncora, and the objects of the castreja culture, well documented in the archaeological finds of the Coto da Pena and Cividade de Âncora. Finally, visitors have direct contact with the fascinating Roman world through the utensils they used in their daily lives and in their trade.
The Municipal Museum of Caminha is a non-profit institution dependent on the City Hall of Caminha, which is dedicated to, for the benefit of the public, collecting, preserving, interpreting, exhibiting and communicating the heritage values of the municipality of Caminha.
