That distinction for Portugal was first awarded to the country in 2017, renewed in 2018 and again awarded in 2019 »which consolidates Portugals international recognition as a tourist destination and shows how the country is" at the top of international tourist preferences ", notes the Deputy Minister of Economy in a press release.

In addition to Portugal, Austria, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey were nominated for Best European Tourist Destination.

"It is with great pride and satisfaction that we have received the revalidation of this international recognition of the Algarve," says João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve.

The beauty of our beaches and the diversity of natural landscapes, ranging from extensive golden sands to small coves hidden among the cliffs, are one of the strongest images of the Algarve. 

But the regions offer goes far beyond that, as we are able to come up with a host of other value-added proposals that also help us to be recognized as the best beach destination.

Since there are 47 beaches with the necessary accessibility for the disabled; the inclusion, in many of these areas, of health care posts available throughout the summer; the implementation of good environmental practices with regard to cleaning and aÌ ?? preservation of these sites or the fact that most of the beaches are permanently watched by lifeguards during a period that often extends beyond the official closure of the beach. ? bathing season
