Looking for tips on things to do in the Algarve? Below are 9 amazing places to visit in the Algarve to admire the coast.
1. Ponta da Piedade, Algarve Portugal
Ponta da Piedade is a promontory located west of the city of Lagos.
Erosion has created an incredible number of resources with sea caves, arches and pinnacles. Its situation offers splendid views of the coast in both directions, making it a great place for sunsets and sunrises!
You can check the various views from the cliff tops or go down the 190 steps to see more of the cove with the arches.
Benagil Cave
The Benagil Sea Cave is probably one of the most famous and best places in the Algarve.
Fake photos circled as far as the dome was supposedly carved. That would have been amazing, but its beautiful as it is.
The entire coast has been eroded by creating sea caves in some places: on a boat trip from Benagil beach you can see about 30 of them. Some are open to the sea, but others like Benagil have only small entrances, creating a true cave experience.
Benagil is circular with a colored dome and a hole in the top for light to enter. Everything is there for an unforgettable moment!
3. Três Irmãos Beach
Accessible through another beach, Tres Irmaos offers a unique feature with its double arch.
Its a lot of fun exploring the other coves until you get there. But I recommend seeing it at low tide, otherwise the water goes up the cliffs, making the exploration really complicated.
4. Navy Beach
Praia da Marinha has often been rated as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and is one of the best beaches in the Algarve.
This long beach with towering cliffs certainly has a lot to offer, with many coves to explore and a host of natural arches.
The location can be admired from a cliff-top walk, the beach itself at low tide or a boat that allows you to see it as a whole. It is truly magnificent!
5. Falésia Beach
Falésia Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Portugal - I love the colors!
6 kilometers of pure pleasure admiring Mother Natures work with the layers of colors. And the best part is that you can see it entirely from a vantage point on a far west promontory.
Definitely one of the best places to visit in the Algarve. Breathtaking, dont you think?
6. Tres Castles Beach
Located in the heart of a large coastal city, Tres Castles is surprisingly monumental.
There is a place where the sea pile is very close to the imposing cliff and the walk between them is impressive. Feels too small.
7. Evaristo Beach
Evaristo Beach is famous mainly for its restaurant. And yet, I think this is one of the best beaches in the Algarve to see at high tide (when most are best seen at low tide).
It is covered by small rock formations, so the waves hit them creating a magical show. Plan to stay here for several hours - as you will find out, its hard to leave!
8. Albandeira Beach
Albandeira Beach is one of the least known beaches in the Algarve.
It is a small cove with a beautiful rock formation in the middle and the water fills most at high tide.
But the best part, I think, is walking the western cliffs to see the hidden cove on the other side. From there you have a fantastic view of a giant bow jumping into the water!
My insiders tip on one of the best places to visit in the Algarve!
9. Dry Algar
For those who like to see and explore, Algar Seco is a great place!
A large hole can go down the cliff and, in the background, erosion has created a hole. You can also explore a tunnel under a rock formation to see the cliffs from a different angle.
Or, you can go for a walk on the cliffs for great coastal views. You can stay on the boardwalk or go out to explore the many rocks and structures.
