This is one of the must-see spots in rural Europe, according to The Guardian

From March, the Alentejo region of southern Portugal becomes a multicolored image: with yellow clover, wild red poppies, white daisies and purple lilies painting the landscape. With almost always blue skies, mild temperatures and few crowds, its the perfect time of year to explore.

Food, good weather and colorful landscape. These are the three main features of Alentejo that are worth highlighting in “The Guardian”. The   British newspaper article published this Sunday, February 3, aims to indicate the six best areas of "rural Europe" to visit in the spring. The Portuguese region is one of them.

There are many walking paths, varying in length and difficulty, around the Alqueva lake and the Guadiana river ( visitalentejo.pt download guides   ). The paths meander through beautiful landscapes and villages in the storked hills, past historical sites, from Neolithic period stones to the medieval city of Évora, in UNESCO. Stop at traditional restaurants to replenish, where the best specialties  (ham) and fresh seafood come at reasonable prices (about € 15 for two people for a three course meal with wine).
