Braga is the only Portuguese destination among the 20 finalists nominated for the “European Best Destination 2019” award. The voting period for choosing the best tourist destination in 2019 starts tomorrow, January 15, and continues until February 5. To vote just go to http://vote.ebdest.in. 


Braga is the only national destination nominated to receive this distinction in 2019, as it confirms the growth of the Braga brand and the qualification of the tourist offer available. Winning destination and nominees benefit from increased visitor numbers and international visibility.


Created in 2009, Brussels-based European Best Destinations promotes culture and tourism in Europe and has since 2010 been the most attractive and modern city to visit in the European Union. This is considered the largest e-tourism event in Europe. 


Thanks to this award, destinations benefit from significant tourism growth (on average another 15% with some peaks of over 40% for some destinations like Zagreb, voted Best Christmas Destination in 2016 and 2017). This European title also offers the winning destination important media coverage at the time of results but also throughout the year (74% more media coverage for Bordeaux, voted the best European destination).


The positive impact of this award is still felt several years after the awards are awarded (more investments in hotels, new companies, attracting new investments etc.). The victorious destination is also most advertised by cruise lines and tour operators.
