For years it was the most secret beach in Portugal Ribeira do Cavalo Beach


It is one of the best kept secrets of our country. It is in Sesimbra and, to get there, it is necessary to walk a trail through the mountain for about 15 minutes. But it is well worth the effort. The place is calm and pleasant, the sea is calm and the crystal clear water of intense and exotic colors.

 

To discover it, you need to have some adventurous spirit, a backpack with everything you need to spend the day, as there are no bars or lifeguards, and comfortable walking shoes. Walking in flip flops is not a good idea, as in some places rock climbing is required. But it is precisely this difficulty that makes us even more eager to descend to the beach.

 



 

Before that, you need to find the right track. On the west side of the village of Sesimbra is the dock and the harbor. After the car park, next to the naval club, there is a dirt road on the right hand side. This is the path that leads us through the mountains to a place where there are several huge boulders. Some parked cars tell us that this is where we should also leave the car.

 





Now we are about 15-20 minutes walk from paradise. The path, with the mountain range on the right side and a quarry, and the sea on the left side, is identified in some places with green lines on the rocks. The descent is steep and a bit dangerous, but the surrounding scenery is an incentive. The view is breathtaking and the desire to reach the beach is enormous.

 

 

 



 

The effort is compensated as soon as one perceives the beauty that our eyes glimpse. Just sandy, calm, clear sea and curiously shaped rocks, one of them looks like a horses head, hence the origin of the beach name. There are few people and mobile phones have no network, so there is a huge silence, only interrupted by the chirping of birds and the small waves that dance to the cool br
