Rota Vicentina is voted one of the best trails in Europe
One of the most famous trails in the world is the Rota Vicentina, which has been recognized by Leading Quality Trails - Best of Europe certification, awarded by the European Ramblers Association (ERA), which organizes the hiking sector. Much of the length of the route is located in the stunning Alentejo region of Portugal.
With this recognition, the Rota Vicentina Association hopes to gain international prominence among travelers, making the Costa Alentejana and Vicentina a preferred destination for hiking and nature tourism.
Inspired by the German Wanderbares Deutchland Qualitaetsweg certification, the demanding label affirms and recognizes a number of factors including soil quality and nature, landscape beauty, safety, access to tourist offers, information provided to users, quality of route marking, and more.
Leading Quality Trails has already certified 12 other routes from countries such as Denmark, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Greece. This is the premiere of western Europe, which proves to be a huge competitive advantage.
The Rota Vicentina is a network of walking routes along the southwest coast of Portugal, which now totals about 400 kilometers marked for walking between Santiago do Cacém and Cabo de S. Vicente. Inaugurated in 2012, this great route was developed in partnership between public entities and local entrepreneurs who defend nature tourism as a development route for the region.
Formed by the Historical Way, the Fishermens Trail and the new Circular Routes, launched in 2015, the Rota Vicentina offers a unique experience of these two worlds: between the authentic rural countryside and the wild coast of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park .
