Installed since 1911, the year of its foundation, in the space of the convent of São Francisco da Cidade, a group seriously affected by the 1755 earthquake, the current National Museum of Contemporary Art - Museu do Chiado was, after the fire that affected the area in 1988, reopened in 1994 under renovation and expansion project by French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte
