Carris Lisbon Museum Portugal


The Lisbon Railways Company Museum is a museum and cultural center that presents the public with the past, present and future of Lisbons public transport and thematic exhibitions with the most diverse cultural and business events.

It is located in the riverside area of the city, in the parish of Alcântara, in an important cultural axis of Lisbon, which includes the Oriente Museum, Ajuda National Palace, the Coach Museum, the Presidency of the Republic Museum, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belem Cultural Center.

The Museum is located at Santo Amaro Station, where all the Lisbon trams are located.

Inaugurated on January 12, 1999, the Museu da Carris is an integral part of the Lisbon Railway Company and displays vehicles, models and everyday documents that tell the history of public transport in the Lisbon capital. Member of the Portuguese Museum Network since 2010.

The Carris Museum in Lisbon, publicizes its memories, which for over a century has given the growth of Lisbon, a city that also developed thanks to the evolution of the public transport system.

The Educational Services mission is to redefine the CARRIS Museum as a place of collective experience, dialogue and sharing of multiple voices, as a territory for reflection and experimentation of relations between cultural heritage and the historical-symbolic role of public transport in the city of Lisbon. in conjunction with the temporary exhibitions and one-off events that the Museum promotes.

The aim is to make the public aware of the existence of CARRISs estate and heritage, as well as its importance in the evolution of the citys morphology, technological development and its history.
 
The educational action is geared to and adapted to various audiences - children, youth, schools, families, adults and audiences with specific needs. It defines as strategy the accomplishment of pedagogical activities, playful and interactive, that stimulate the thought, sensations and ideas, encouraging the participation and the rereading of the places and objects, through guided visits, workshops, courses, school holidays and birthday parties.  

Starting from the central theme of transport and taking a current reading of issues such as mobility, road safety and ecological awareness, routes, maps, wheels, mills and trips are explored through an experimental approach, which privileges the discovery of the senses
