Navy Museum: A World of Discovery. During the visit we will get in touch with themes of diverse nature, through one of the most fascinating aspects of human history: the maritime adventure.
The Navy Museum was founded by King D. Luís I on July 22, 1863. Having begun to be gathered during the 18th century, today the Museums collection has more than 17,000 pieces, among which we selected the 2500 that constitute our permanent exhibition. During the visit we will get in touch with objects of a different nature, originating from different cultures. We hope that your careful observation will allow us to understand not only the environment that gave rise to them but also the influences that have marked them, and that through all these testimonies we can in some way contribute to the formation of as broad a perspective as possible. Organized in different thematic areas, one can appreciate models of ships from the Age of Discovery (16th century) to the present day. Also noteworthy is the Galeotas Pavilion, where there is, among others, a royal brigantine from the 19th century.
