Paços de Ferreira Municipal Museum
With the inauguration of the new building of the town halls, the one that served and made the pacenses proud in the last century assumes functions as a Municipal Museum.
The Municipality of Paços de Ferreira now has a repository space for the memory of arts and crafts and pacense culture, with particular emphasis on the furniture industry.
Its main objective is to assume itself as an interpretative center of the county from the origins of its settlement until the contemporary age. Opened on November 6, 2001 and installed in the noble building, which until May 20, 1997 was City Hall, it is intended to continue and deepen the fulfillment of the Municipalitys socio-cultural programs, as an institution intended to preserve, investigate, exhibit and disseminate its patrimonial values, in permanent communication with the community.
Their collections aim to identify the heritage of a rural society, which has been progressively shaping an apparently circumscribed territory with its hills, fields, herds and handicrafts, but always interconnected by multiple short, medium and long distance relationships. , with which more than six millennia of collective history have been woven. Stressing its exponential moments, as if it were a summary reading of a stratigraphic cut or the observation of the birth and blossoming of a leafy tree, where will highlight the development of an industrial branch, as an insignia of the council progress.
The exposed tools are the sequence of the transformation of the raw material, wood, to some of its possible destinations, such as construction and, in particular, furniture.
Within furniture, we highlight the school furniture that allows simultaneously to look at the constitution of a specific space for the teaching and learning of children and the way this education was conceived by the pedagogues and assimilated by society.
